Matriculation is the process by which you formally register as a student at the University of St Andrews. It is usually completed in two stages: one online and one in-person at the matriculation event in orientation week.

Matriculation September 2020

In light of the situation with Covid-19, September 2020 matriculation will be completed entirely online for many students, including ID/document checks. However, in-person document checks will still be required for some students for visa purposes. Any in-person document checks will be managed to ensure compliance with government guidance on social distancing and hygiene measures.

All new students and returning international students will need to complete an online ID/document check and as part of the online matriculation process you will be able to book an appointment for this. At this appointment international students will be informed whether a further in-person check is required for visa purposes.

Returning EU/UK students will not be required to complete a document check but must still complete all other elements of online matriculation.

See the matriculation event section below for further details.

Online matriculation

The online matriculation facility is accessed through MySaint. Registry will send access details to your University email address in August (or January for semester 2 entrants and those returning from leave of absence).

As part of online matriculation, you may need to:

  • read essential information
  • pay tuition fees
  • pay accommodation fees
  • pay any outstanding debt
  • update personal details
  • complete the online training in good academic practice (sometimes referred to as TGAP)
  • read visa and passport information for UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) documentation checks
  • sign up to the St Andrews Medical agreement (medicine students only)
  • sign up to the Matriculation Agreement (University terms and conditions)
    Terms and conditions of study

Matriculation event

We are currently planning to hold a limited matriculation event in September 2020 in order to complete in-person document checks for some international students for visa purposes only. However, this will remain under review as the Covid-19 situation develops and we will update the information on this page if this plan changes.

The matriculation event will take place on the following dates in the Gateway building:

  • 9am-5pm Monday 7 - Thursday 10 September 2020

If you require an in-person document check, you will be informed of this requirement during online matriculation and you will be given an appointment to attend the matriculation event.

Please do not attend the event if you have not been asked to do so.

If you need to complete an in-person ID/document check, but you are unable to arrive in St Andrews for orientation week to attend the matriculation event due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, you will be given an appointment to attend an in-person ID/document check when you arrive in St Andrews. This will be arranged when you complete your online ID/document check.

Failure to matriculate

All elements of matriculation must be completed by the specified deadline, to avoid your studies being terminated.
